We’ve gone through the hundreds of podcasts out there on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. Music is often helpful, and television is certainly too distracting, but sometimes the best thing to help accelerate your workday and focus is listening to a new podcasts.

Fortunately, some podcasts can be listened to during general work. One good example to compare this to is that people recommend listening to classical music while studying because listening to songs with actual lyrics can distract you. Your brain becomes focused on processing the words in the song rather than what you’re studying. It makes sense that your sound and language centers would activate while listening to podcasts, but even your motor and sensory processing centers can activate while listening to podcasts.

A few weeks ago, I met up with Jordan, who if you remember was working on his essay on the movie Training Day. And so, he would get himself into trouble succumbing to peer pressure, but his grandfather encouraged him to set his own course in life and focus on school. Discovering the right podcast for work can help improve focus and make the most of your time. You won’t find much in the way of actionable tips and tricks, but I find that it’s novel telling of the backstories behind small things we use everyday sparks my creative energy and leaves me feeling inspired. It’s also a must-listen for anyone who designs, sells, or markets products.

We’re still working on our training and guideline language on how the admissions staff should approach these questions.
